Update: Maya Angelou Homework for Period G7

1. Identify four to five literary devices you see in this essay and quote at least one example of both. (If you get stuck, the study questions might point you in the right direction.)
   
2. Write a poem using some of these devices. You can EITHER write a “found poem” or a poem based on your answer to the question in Writing Prompt #1.

"Uh, But What’s a Found Poem?"
A found poem uses words, phrases, or sentences from another text. You can rearrange, recombine, omit, and repeat words, phrases, or sentences. You may not add your own words. Usually a found poem will try to distill or express an understanding of a certain theme, character, moment, or some other focus of the piece – e.g., you might try to capture a mood, or highlight Angelou’s greater purpose, etc. If you have any questions feel free to email me or get in touch with any member of the Maya Angelou group: Evan, Olivia, and Sarah.

• Tuesday: Class drops.
  
• Wednesday: Langston Hughes essay due; discussion in class today.
  
• Thursday: Maya Angelou essay and “draft and a half” due; discussion in class.
  
• Friday: Annie Dillard essay due today; discussion and vocab quiz in class.

Period G7

• Monday: Momaday due; discussion in class.
  
• Tuesday: Hughes due; discussion in class.
  
• Wednesday: Review Cofer essay and study vocab; quiz and “Silent Dancing” descriptive exercise in class.
  
• Thursday: Dillard and “draft and a half” due; discuss in class.
  
• Friday: Class drops. But over the weekend, write your peer feedback and read the Angelou essay for discussion on Monday.
